The Italian Voice At The UN
25 November 2009

"It has been a very important experience, not only from the standpoint of personal excitement, but also because in all the participants with whom I was able to compare myself I found a strong sharing of intent and awareness that much can be done to combat climate change, famine and to safeguard our planet.”

This was the first comment on returning to the Forum on climate change that took place in the UN Headquarters in New York on 22nd September 2009.

"I found myself amongst the“world's great”continued Carlo Tonutti "Together with me there was the President of ENEL, Paolo Scaroni and MD Fulvio Conti. We were the only Italians invited among 200 delegates, of which 80 were heads of state, meeting to discuss actions to undertake to protect our planet's climate in preparation for the next forum that will take place in December in Copenhagen, whose final objective is to get all governments to sign a historic agreement that saves the environment and preserves its integrity by reducing CO2 emissions, that clearly imposes strict standards for avoiding pollution and damage to the habitat ".

“ I was asked to endorse the SEAL THE DEAL campaign and to participate as a speaker to respond to 3 questions that had been put to me on the basis of my personal experience of the development of equipment that has little adverse impact on plant life and which really eliminates all the processes that have no influence on the fertility of the land and on plant growth, but which instead contribute to the preservation and improvement of soil fertility."

"The General Secretary of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, asked the various speakers which incentives to introduce to stimulate the development of solutions to strengthen food production in the world, which policies to adopt to help a more sustainable management of natural resources reducing emissions, to reduce de-forestation, and also increase the development of bio-energy and its production".

"I replied " continued Carlo Tonutti "that governments should impose on all manufacturers the development of machinery that truly reduces CO2 emissions, that increases productivity and decreases water consumption. Incentives to farmers who intend to acquire this new machinery would also be useful and training is also necessary to educate the farmers in understanding the benefits provided by this new machinery".
